Head-on collision on Iron Springs Road resulted in fatality.

Around 4pm Thursday evening fire engines from Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA) and Prescott Fire Department responded to reports of a head-on collision on Iron Springs Road near the Alto Pit recreational area.  Three engines and a battalion chief responded to the call.  The first arriving engine found a Yavapai County Sheriff Deputy already on scene attempting to render aid to an elderly female in a passenger car with heavy front end damage.  The second vehicle involved was a semi-truck which came to a stop off the road nearby.  CAFMA Engine 51 began extrication on the car to gain access to the woman while Prescott Engine 72 attempted to treat her as she had suffered multi-systems trauma in the impact.  Prescott Engine 71 rendered aid to the driver of the semi-truck.

While the truck driver suffered minor injuries and ultimately refused treatment or transport, the woman in the car succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead on scene.  Her identity and age were unknown to first responders as no identification was found on her and she was driving a rental car.  Witnesses reported seeing the car strike a guardrail then veer into the oncoming lane, where it collided with the truck.  As of 6:30p, Iron Springs Road was closed in order to conduct the investigation and all traffic was being rerouted down White Spar Road.
