Single Vehicle Motorcycle Crash Victim Passes Away

Update on the May 26 accident.

On Friday, May 31, 2019, Tamara Kelley, passed away from the injuries that she sustained in this accident.  The victims’ family has been notified.  

The Prescott Police Department Traffic Safety Section will continue with their investigation.

Single Vehicle Motorcycle Crash Seriously Injures 2 people

On Sunday, May 26, 2019 at approximately 5:00 PM Prescott Police Officers responded to the intersection of Gurley St and Overland Trail in reference to an injury accident involving a single motorcycle.

Officers learned that the driver of the motorcycle, Jesse Gerhardt Jr., a 58 year old Phoenix man, and passenger, Tamara Kelley, a 58 year old woman from Mayer, were travelling eastbound on Gurley Street, on a 1999 Harley Davidson Road King, in the #1 lane of travel. According to witness statements, the motorcycle moved across 3 lanes of traffic into the right turn lane for Overland Trail, when the driver failed to negotiate the turn and struck the concrete curb to the median separating the entrance and exit lanes for Overland Trail. Both Gerhardt and Kelley were ejected from the motorcycle as a result of the collision.

Gerhardt and Kelley sustained significant injuries and were transported from the scene by helicopter to a Phoenix area hospital.   At this time both Gerhardt’s and Kelley’s conditions are listed as critical. Neither occupant was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

Eastbound traffic on the roadway was closed while emergency personnel rendered aid and for the emergency transportation from the scene by helicopter. A portion of the roadway remained closed while members of the Prescott Police Department Traffic Safety Section investigated the collision.

Members of the Prescott Police Department Traffic Safety Section will continue their investigation into the cause of the collision.  At this time it is unknown if alcohol was a contributing factor. The Prescott Police Department is seeking additional witnesses and asks for anyone with information about this accident to contact Officer Bardon at 928-777-1999.
