Personal protective equipment likely saved motorcyclist’s life.

About 7:30 PM on Christmas night, Prescott Fire Dept. dispatch received multiple 911 calls for a 3 vehicle car accident including a motorcycle down on Highway 69 at Holiday Drive. Initial arriving units on scene found one patient with significant lower leg injuries secondary to his motorcycle going down. The patient was a 35-year-old male and was wearing a full set of personal protective equipment, including a helmet and leathers. He had an angulated and open fracture in his left lower leg but appeared to have no trauma to his head, neck or back. The decision was made to fly the patient from Highway 69 to a level one trauma facility down in Phoenix. Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the accident.

An accident like this is a good reminder of how important it is to wear personal protective equipment when riding a motorcycle. This patient’s personal protective equipment, including his helmet and full set of leathers, saved this person’s life.
