Flooding in Mayer, Spring Valley, Cordes Lakes – a brief overview --

Around 3:45 this afternoon, YCSO received reports of flooding in areas along Big Bug creek in Mayer. Deputies and Mayer Fire personnel, already staged in the area, arrived quickly and notified residents that a mandatory evacuation had been issued. This included the Stagecoach and Chimney Ranch trailer parks. YCSO used the Code Red Emergency Notification system to warn residents along Big Bug Creek from Mayer to I 17. There were no injuries reported during the evacuations. Low water crossings in Mayer were shut down by deputies.

The high waters moved onto Spring Valley causing additional evacuations and the closure of the main community bridge – there has been reports of damage to homes in both communities. Deputies staged ahead of the waters in Cordes Lakes to control low water crossings expected to flood as the waters moved beyond Spring Valley.

An unoccupied vehicle near the creek south of Mayer was caught in the flood waters and floated some distance before coming to rest on high ground. A deputy was in the area when this happened.

Mayer High School in Spring Valley has been opened as a Red Cross Shelter and can also handle pets.

Yavapai County Public Work personnel are currently working to clear the bridge in Spring Valley (see attached) and hoping to open it soon.

The bridge in Cordes Lakes is now open..

PLEASE RESPECT ROAD CLOSURE SIGNS AND DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE THROUGH LOW WATER CROSSINGS. WATCH CHILDREN AROUND THESE LOW WATER AREAS AND BE AWARE OF CURRENT WEATHER UPDATES FOR YOUR COMMUNITY.
