Prescott, AZ (July 16, 2018) –– Fire managers on the Verde Ranger District are plan to burn piles Wednesday, July 18th through Tuesday, July 31st; pending favorable weather conditions.

Approximately 126 acres are planned on Mingus Mountain. Locations are near the Mingus Academy (T15N, R2E, Sec 30 & 31) and the Brindle Pup Mine (T15N, R3E, Sec 25, 26 & 36). These are brush piles that have been generated from a recently completed fuel breaks. Smoke may be visible around Mingus Academy, HWY 89a from Viewpoint Drive to Mingus Summit, along Forest Road 132 near Brindle Pup Mine and in the immediate areas of the burn activity. In the interest of safety, forest visitors are reminded to obey all traffic signs and use caution when traveling in the vicinity of the prescribed fire burn units as firefighters and fire-related traffic will be in the area.

Burning of debris left over from brush-crush and thinning projects require moisture in the surrounding vegetation and typically produces much lighter smoke than broadcast burning.

All prescribed fires activity is dependent on the availability of personnel and equipment, weather, fuels and conditions that minimize smoke impacts as best as possible and approval from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (www.azdeq.gov).
