On December 17, 2017 at approximately 1:50 PM, Prescott Police Officers were dispatched to the parking garage in the 100 block of S. Granite Street in reference to an Armed Robbery that had just occurred. Upon their arrival, Officers contacted a female victim in her 60s and a female victim in her 70s who reported they had been approached by a male suspect who had initially greeted them pleasantly and then immediately produced a knife and held it to one of the victim’s throats and demanded their purses. He then fled the area, first on foot and then later in a vehicle, with their property.
A short time later, Prescott Police Officers, located the vehicle in the area of SR 69/89 traveling at a very high rate of speed. The suspect, who was later identified as 60 year old Robert Christy Jr, of Grand Canyon, Arizona left the road and crashed his vehicle. He exited his vehicle and attempted to flee once again. During this time, Christy fell down an embankment, striking his head on a rock. He was later transported to a Phoenix area hospital for what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.
Christy was found to be in possession of the items reported missing by the two victims. He also had a felony warrant for a parole violation regarding another armed robbery out of the Department of Corrections. He is currently in Phoenix receiving medical treatment and is in the custody of the DOC.
The Prescott Police Department will continue this investigation and upon completion and consultation with the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office, charges will be pending.
