President Trump Pardons Sheriff Joe Arpaio

Former Sheriff Joe Arpaio has been pardoned. But, is that the last we hear from Sheriff Joe?

President Donald Trump announced tonight that he has pardoned former Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who was convicted of criminal contempt of court.

U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton declared her verdict July 31, 2017, stating that evidence demonstrated Arpaio’s “flagrant disregard” for another federal judge’s order, which was to halt immigration roundups.  Arpaio could have been sentenced up to 6 months in prison. 

Immediately after word of Bolton’s ruling, Arpaio’s legal defense team declared their intent to appeal the verdict, and seek a jury trial. 

But, now that’s all moot, as President Trump’s tweet makes clear:

Trump’s pardon of Arpaio met with approval from several members of Arizona’s legislative delegation, but not all.  Some remained silent, while many took to Trump’s favorite communications tool - Twitter, to respond.
