Hundreds of Kids Participate in 76th Annual Kiwanis Kiddie Parade

PRESCOTT- In a cart with a red, white and blue ribbon surrounding the outside, cousins Cambryn Pena (3) and Declan Peckham (2) joined hundreds of kids going down Gurley Street in the 76th annual Kiwanis Kiddie Parade in downtown Prescott.

“Kiddie parades like this means we are a community of families and patriotism,“ Grandmother Kathy Peckham said. “It’s the kickoff of the whole weekend.”

Kids decked out in patriotic gear competed for various prizes offered such as most original costume and float. The pets were even involved with a best decorated pet and owner combo.

“The kids are all dressed up in red, white and blue,” Peckham said. “Dogs (and) children all happy.”

The parade has been put on each year by the Kiwanis Prescott Organization and has become a staple in the Prescott Independence week celebration.

“Must of funds we collect is from the community,” Kiwanis member Rose Gowen said “This is just another part of us giving back to community based on everything they do for us.”

It was announced during the Prescott Frontier Days Parade that the Kiddie Parade on Friday morning raised $130,000.

Gowen mentioned those interested in next year’s parade can just show up for free and participate in the annual tradition.
