The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a red flag warning for Friday, June 9 from noon to 7 PM. There will be strong winds accompanied by low humidity.
Winds: 15-25 MPH with gusts 30-40 MPH.
According to the NWS, if any fires develop, they will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
"A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring or are imminent,” is the NWS report. "A combination of strong winds and low relative humidities can contribute to extreme fire behavior.”
"Gusty southwest winds are expected this weekend. A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for Saturday for areas along the Mogollon Rim to the Kaibab Plateau and also the Black Mesa. Stay tuned as additional Red Flag Warnings and or Wind Advisories may be issued."
