PRESCOTT- Fire engines blazed down Montezuma Street on Tuesday just after noon responding to a wildland fire at Monument Park just across from the Depot Marketplace in Prescott.
Fire Marshal Don Devendorf said upon arrival they found a creeping wildland fire that ended up being two acres in length when all was completed.
The smoke was billowing out of the scene as Devendorf mentioned Montezuma street had to be temporarily closed because the smoke was close to the ground.
After calling in assistance from the State Land Department, Division of Forestry and Fire Management and The Forest Service, Devendorf said the fire has been extinguished after letting it burn some dead grass and cotton in the area.
Devendorf mentioned no injuries occurred and structures were not threatened. Montezuma street has since been re-opened.
