Detectives Seeking information on Arson Incident

09 September 2016   Dwight D’Evelyn

YCSO detectives are seeking information following an apparent arson caused fire that occurred on July 27, 2016, in the 11000 block of Nancy Lane, Dewey, Arizona.

At the time of the fire, the house was vacant and open. Detectives are asking for help from the public.

Background – YCSO deputies were dispatched to the incident location around midnight on July 27, 2016, to a home fully engulfed in flames. Once the fire was extinguished by personnel from The Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority, deputies noted the structure had been completely destroyed. A YCSO detective worked with arson investigators from the fire department and ATF. Fire department investigators advised the detective that they had also investigated a fire at this home on June 11, 2016. In the June fire, the homeowner admitted to leaving a candle lit which was believed to have started that fire resulting in major damage to the home’s interior. Due to the damage, the homeowner moved to temporary housing off site. The interior was in the process of being renovated from the June 11 fire when the July 27 fire occurred. The homeowner has been interviewed following the July 27 fire regarding activity in and around her home during reconstruction.

Throughout the past few weeks, investigators have concluded there is nothing to indicate this was an accidental or naturally caused fire and believe the fire was intentionally set.

Anyone with information regarding the July 27th fire is asked to call Detective John McDormett at 928-777-7334 or contact Yavapai Silent Witness at 1800-932-3232. A cash reward of up to $1,000.00 will be offered ONLY to Silent Witness callers if they provide a tip leading to an arrest. Refer to case number 16-026932.

Citizens can contact the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office with information or questions at 928-771-3260 or the YCSO website:
