Grand Opening for Kayla's Hands Playground
Featured

23 August 2016   Kiwanis Press Release

The Kiwanis Club of Prescott is excited to announce the Official Grand Opening of the Kayla’s Hands Playground at Pioneer Park, Prescott, Az.

The Playground was built in honor of Kayla Jean Mueller (August 14, 1988-February 6, 2015). Kayla was an American humanitarian aid worker from Prescott, Arizona. She was taken captive in August 2013 in Aleppo, Syria while leaving Medicins Sans Frontieres Hospital. Eighteen months later her life was taken at age 26 by ISIS.

A robust community campaign to fund this playground was undertaken by the Kiwanis Club of Prescott to make Kayla’s Hands playground a reality. The design of this playground is to serve 6-12 year olds, including handicapped users. (ADA Compliant) The playground features play elements by Landscape Structures, Inc including a ZipKrooz which lets kids of all abilities FLY, a multiple-user/multi-direction Oodle Swing, multiple slides, swings, and climbing equipment. A first in Prescott is a poured-in-place safety surface which allows wheelchairs unhindered access and maneuverability.

The playground will represent a lasting memorial to one of Prescott’s most beloved daughters, Kayla Jean Mueller. This new playground will allow Kayla’s loving dedication to the children of the world to continue for many generations to come.

Come join us to celebrate Kayla’s Hands Playground Saturday, August 27th, 2016 at 10am. Senator John McCain will be a featured speaker along with other dignitaries.
