Wreaths Across America Honoring Local American Heroes with Remembrance Wreaths Make Sure No Veteran is Forgotten this Holiday Season.

National nonprofit Wreaths Across America is working hard to ensure no veteran from the Quad City area is forgotten this holiday season. On Dec. 12th, National Wreaths Across America Day, at 10am Arizona time; live, balsam remembrance wreaths will be placed at the headstones of fallen veterans at nearly 1,000 locations across the country and overseas.

Locally, a remembrance ceremony will be held at the Prescott National Cemetery in Prescott, Arizona, on this day to ensure that the 4000+ individuals buried there, who served to protect the freedoms of our country are not, and never will be, forgotten.

The Driggs family has been sponsoring the event since 2012 when they took over the duties as the Location Coordinator. With help from the Prescott National Cemetery staff, our local Patriot Guard Riders and the American Legion Post 6 Color/Honor guard; together we have worked to make this a meaningful event. Many local groups and city officials come out to participate in the event, such as the Prescott Mayor Oberg and Prescott Valley Mayor Skoog, the Gold Star Families, the Prescott National Memorial Ladies, the Civil Air Patrol, local VFW and American Legion Posts just to name a few.

19 Fundraising groups and many individuals have been raising funds for Wreath sponsorships over the last year. This year the Prescott National Cemetery will have over 850 Wreaths for our veterans.

The Wreaths Across America ceremony has impacted so many lives, mostly to those who are left behind when their loved one gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

To quote our 30th President, Calvin Coolidge, “The Nation which forgets its defenders will be itself forgotten”.

“The feeling of pride and respect you will experience when placing a wreath for a veteran will stay with you always,” said Morrill Worcester, founder of Wreaths Across America. “It is a gift you are giving, not only to the veteran, but to their family who served and sacrificed for the freedoms we all have.”

Those unable to participate in the wreath-laying ceremony are invited to visit the WAA website and social media channels to learn more.
