Post Morning update:
The total number of structures lost to the Lane 2 Fire has now been updated to eleven. Four residences and seven outbuildings are now reported lost. This is up from three residences and four outbuildings reported earlier. These structures were lost at the same time as the ones previously reported but due to inaccessible terrain had gone uncounted.
Despite hot dry windy weather, fire crews continued to make good progress today from anchor points established at Crown King and Horsethief Basin. Dozer lines were expanded south down Forest Road 192 to prevent the fire from turning back north towards the Crown King community.
Fire activity along the southern flank was minimal today. The fire however, was very active in the Castle Creek Wilderness area and continues to move slowly in a northeast direction through the wilderness area.
A Fire Emergency Closure will remain in effect, at least through the coming holiday weekend, for all sections of the Prescott National Forest located south of the community of Goodwin. To provide for public and firefighter safety, no public access to this portion of the forest will be permitted. The community of Crown King continues to be evacuated.
