A community meeting was held on July 2 at 4 pm at the Mayer Recreation Center to update the local residents on the current situation of the Lane 2 Fire in the Bradshaw Ranger District of the Prescott National Forest. Representatives of the Prescott National Forest, Arizona Central West Zone Incident Management Team, and state and local provided information concerning progress of the suppression efforts and projected activities on the Lane 2 Fire. Evacuated residents applauded the arrival of Crown King Fire Department Chief Steve Lombardo, recognizing his department’s efforts to protect the community. The next meeting is planned for Sunday, July 6, 2008 at the same location.
Firefighters had a successful day today. Strong winds pushed the fire to the southeast, testing the lines established during the night of July 1 around the Horse Thief Basin summer homes. The lines held. The lines south and east of Crown King were also tested with the same results. Firefighters in both areas continue to patrol and reinforce the lines and mop-up hotspots close to the line.
The Red Cross will offer volunteer training on Thursday morning at 10 am, according to Tracey Keist from the Grand Canyon Red Cross.
