Listen Up! Uncategorizable Podcasts
Featured

28 September 2018

Let's face it. Sometimes round things don’t fit into square holes.

This week we have a group of Podcasts that don't fit into perfect categories, but are worth checking out. Some are just great, some are for a special interest, some are, well, different. So if you want to listen to something that fits like a round peg in a square hole, these might be for you.

The Mile High Show

Matt Santos has a Podcast that starts in Prescott and reaches from coast to coast and beyond. Focusing on entertainment and arts in the Quad Cities, but stretching boundaries. He interviews artists, entertainers, and newsmakers in and traveling through Arizona. Matt has spent most of his professional life as a journalist and photographer covering everything from small town events to major international news stories. Relocating from the San Francisco Bay Area in 2004, Matt quickly learned that the Prescott area was home to a host of the most talented artists, entertainers, musicians, and authors as well as large cast of characters with stories to tell. Using long form conversations, The Mile High Show hopes to share these stories with the world.

Available at the eNews sites, iTunes, Podbean, and at milehighshow.com

The Way I Heard It

Mike Rowe brings his considerable skills as a TV host, writer, narrator, producer, actor, and spokesman, to a Podcast that is tipping his cap, so to speak, to broadcast legend Paul Harvey. In Mike’s updated version, his podcast, “The Way I Heard It,” has short mysteries for  those with a love for fascinating tales.  As Mike states, "All good stories have a twist, and all great storytellers are just a little twisted. Join me for a different take on the people and events that you thought you knew, from pop culture to politics, Hollywood to history…The Way I Heard It is a series of short mysteries for the curious mind with a short attention span. The Way I Heard It proved positive with podcast listeners and has hit #10 for podcast and publishers, and has been #1 on the short form podcast chart."

This is one of my personal favorites every week.

Podcache

Sonny, Sandy and Sean, also known as Team PodCacher, are a family geocaching team in sunny San Diego, California. Sonny started geocaching back in Nov 2002 after reading about the hobby in National Geographic Traveller. He introduced Sandy to geocaching in January 2004 on their first date and she was hooked (on both Sonny   and the new hobby). They got married and started caching together. In May 2008, Sean joined the family and they chose the name “Team PodCacher” to cache together as a family.

In the summer of 2005, Sonny started learning about podcasting and realized it was something that could be done from home, with just a small recorder and a microphone. They talked about what topic to cover and Sandy suggested geocaching. The PodCacher Podcast was born in July 2005, as Sonny and Sandy started recording by literally sitting on the couch and passing a microphone back and forth. They never dreamed it would grow to become the largest show in the world about the quirky and fun outdoor hobby called Geocaching. The PodCachers vision is to create a high quality, family-friendly show that will inform, inspire and entertain! They have designed a program that delivers geocaching and gps news, tips and tricks, tools of the trade, caching stories from around the world, interviews, live audio events, giveaways and much more! The PodCacher.com website, and social media sites, have great extra resources as well.

Entertainment(x)

Clayton Howe is an avid musical theatre performer. His love of telling stories has brought him to the creation of Entertainment(x), his podcast. Born and raised on Long Island, and schooled at State University of New York (SUNY), Clayton has a resume in theater that stretches from New York Theater to Regional Theater to Cruise Lines. He has been in productions as varied as Disney all the way to From Here to Eternity. His time in musical theater has given him insights into the world of performing. That's Unusual

Dr. G has a podcast that has been providing priceless positive feedback for the last five years. He has had conversations with iconic authors, entertainers, innovators, speakers, actors, musicians, executives, and many more. More of a platform than a Podcast that allows him to blend storytelling, entertainment and education into a long form format. Dr. Gautam Gulati, MD and MPH from George Washington University, and MBA from John Hopkins, (Medical Sherpa, Status Quo Agitator), Speaker, Author, Professor, Entrepreneur, Advisor, and Investor, says, "Doing the usual stuff doesn’t change a damn thing. In fact, it breeds complacency and status quo thinking." As an innovation-focused executive for over 20 years, he has studied, interviewed, worked for, and advised forward-thinking leaders from the worlds most recognized companies. If you want to, “think differently and inoculate against status quo,” this might be worth your rapt attention.
