Mother’s Day Fine Art and Chocolate Festival May 8-9, 2021

Art and chocolate aficionados are sure to enjoy the Mother’s Day Fine Art & Chocolate Festival May 8-9. Kick off the mountain festival season surrounded by thousands of original works of art and unique fine crafts, including sculptures, paintings, pottery, photography, fiber art, jewelry, and much more. Presented by the Mountain Artists Guild, the festival includes more than 125 artists and craftsmen, select chocolatiers, confectioners, trendy food concessions, and live entertainment.

“We are proud to announce batik artist Paul Nzalamba is among the diverse gathering of juried artists,” said Pauline Gravier, Executive Director of the Mountain Artists Guild. “This year’s festival will host a variety of new exhibitors that are sure to appeal to art enthusiasts and collectors.”

Paul Nzalamba was raised in Kenya and now lives in Los Angeles. He creates stories through batik art, with an exotic and rhythmic use of vibrant color and form. Batik is a wax-resist fabric dying technique painstakingly created by applying hot wax and colorful dyes, onto cloth. Paul learned this technique while watching his mother design and construct baskets and floor mats.

Nzalamba’s batiks reflect his African culture, but the themes which dominate his work are universal, reflecting family, relationships, celebration, and learning. Many of his pieces show a mother with her child and portray the nurturing embrace of motherhood through the generations.

The event is free and includes live music, and a variety of festival favorites – from sweet to spicy decadence, there is sure to be something to please every pallet. Entertainment includes world renowned classical guitarist Esteban, and his violinist daughter Theresa Joy, among others.
