Salt River Project Donates $2,500 to Yavapai CASA for Kids Foundation to Support Foster Youth Transitioning into Adulthood

Yavapai CASA for Kids Foundation (YC4KF) recently received a $2,500 grant from the Salt River Project to ensure the continuation of the Keys to Success Program, which in Yavapai County, is done in partnership with Arizona Friends of Foster Care Foundation.

“When a youth ages out of foster care they are fighting against a slew of negative statistics that serve as a barrier to their success.” Mona Stephens, Development Director at YC4KF stated. “For example 20% of the aging out population become homeless,50% will not be gainfully employed by 24, 71% of the girls will become pregnant before ages 21, 60% of the boys will serve time in prison, and only 3% will graduate with a college degree to name a few.”

The Keys to Success Program helps those who have aged out of foster care and reside in western Yavapai County beat these barriers to success. The program provides intensive, individualized career planning, education, and employment development services. Keys to Success empowers youth aging out of foster care to become thriving, self-sufficient adults. It also connects these youth to resources and offers unparalleled support to increase their chances of success as they transition from foster care to adulthood.

“Keys to Success really helps former foster youth stomp out their barriers to success and enables them to embody positive statistics. Statistics such as 89% of Keys to Success participants securing employment within 1 year of enrollment and 82% enrolling post-secondary training or education.” Yvonne Bartlett, Operations Manager with YC4KF stated.

Clearly, the Salt River Project is making a positive impact in the lives of local youth who have aged out of the foster care system through their generous donation.
