The Yavapai College womens’ soccer team fell short in their Prescott home opener 1-0, to the Chandler-Gilbert Coyotes at Ken Lindley Field.

The good crowd came out to enjoy a somewhat cooler evening, after a storm had passed through the area. The field conditions were excellent and not a factor in the game.

The lone goal in the game came with an Aaliyah Flores breakaway goal with about 26 minutes left in the game.

Prior to that, both teams struggled to find any offensive chemistry in the first half, but had opportunities to take the lead.

The Coyotes missed a big chance towards the end of the first half when Elena Etchamendy had a breakaway, but standing between her and the goal was YC’s Lauryn Mayhan, who rose to the challenge and deflected the ball up into the air, preserving the scoreless game up to that point.

The loss evens up the Yavapai College record at (2-2) on the young season. The Roughriders will play at Mesa Community College at 5:30pm on Tuesday.
