The Harlem Globetrotters will by bringing their 2023 World Tour through Prescott Valley on March 3 at 7pm, in the Findlay Toyota Center. Their opponent once again will be the Washington Generals, who continuously try to overcome the legendary Globetrotters.

If you have not seen the Globetrotters live, then you have been missing out on some of the best family entertainment you will ever find.

The team was founded in 1926 by Abe Saperstein, and has been playing games for 95 plus years now, entertaining nearly 150 million fans in 123 countries. If you grew up in the 1970s, you may remember the Globetrotters cartoon on Saturday mornings. They were fun to watch, with legendary names such as Goose Tatum, Curly Neal, Marques Haynes, and Meadowlark Lemon. Go a little further back in time and NBA greats Connie Hawkins and Wilt Chamberlain started their professional careers as a Globetrotter.

One of the coaches is Sweet Lou Dunbar, who extended his 27 year playing career with the Globetrotters, to become the Director of Player Personnel and a coach. At six foot nine, he is not hard to miss on the bench.

Scooter Christensen will be playing 18th season with the Globetrotters, said he has seen the classic cartoons as well. “Those shows are great. The names, the history behind the greats that came before us, it’s just remarkable.” Curious myself of how anyone earns the right to wear the red, white , and blue uniform, Christensen said, “Surprisingly my career all started in Phoenix. My story is really unique. It started off by being an assistant video coordinator, and a practice player for the Phoenix Suns. This was back when Steve Nash was the two timing MVP.  We use to have pickup games on the weekend and at the time I did not know that the Globetrotters were being headquartered out of Phoenix. They actually came out to look at another guy and got a look at me too, and invited me to camp.”

Fans have the opportunity to get autographs and chat with the players

The one thing you will notice when you attend a Globetrotter game, is that it is full of smiles and laughter throughout. Christensen said, “What really amazed when I first joined is, that we are always the home team, which is really cool. The other thing that I noticed right off was seeing all the smiles on everyone’s faces. It does not matter if we don’t speak the language of where we are, people all around the world get it. They come to be entertained and have a good time. Being able to accomplish this so many times throughout the year makes it all worthwhile.”
