Backpack Full of Cash is a documentary looking at the dismantling of public schools.

Prescott Education Advocacy Council in collaboration with Save Our Schools Arizona will screen “BACKPACK FULL OF CASH,” a documentary at Mile High Middle School in Hendrix Auditorium at 300 S. Granite St., Prescott, AZ on Monday, February 5, 2018 at 6:00 – 7:45 PM. Doors open at 5:35 pm. Car pool and remember the parking garage at Granite and Goodwin. Parking is limited at Mile High.

Backpack Full of Cash, interviewed leading experts on public education and democracy, particularly about the growing impact of privatization on K-12 schools. Do you remember the film, Waiting for Superman that pushed the “reformers’” message––U.S. public education is broken, bad teachers are the problem, and only the private sector can fix it––Backpack Full of Cash is an answer to the Superman propaganda. 

Narrated by Academy Award-winning actor, Matt Damon, BACKPACK explores the real cost of privatizing America's public schools. This timely new documentary takes viewers into the world of market-based education “reform”.  The film’s fundamental concern is:  Why dismantle our public school system? Instead, why not make it work for every child?” 

BACKPACK FULL OF CASH follows the tumultuous 2013-14 school year in Philadelphia and other cities where public education – starved of resources and undermined by privatization – is at risk.  This story is being replicated across the country. BACKPACK FULL OF CASH makes the case for public education as a basic civil right. 

The film features genuine heroes like the principals, teachers, activists, parents and most hearteningly, students who are fighting for their education.  PEAC hopes that beginning with the showing of this film we begin conversations that target the education of all of our children with equity, opportunity and transparency. Our hope is that you also find the film inspiring, and take action to strengthen—not abandon—our system of public education.
