PRESCOTT, Ariz. – California Pacific Conference home openers are no joke, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University handled their business sweeping the Red Hawks of Simpson University. The (11-5, 3-0 Cal Pac) were led by Caylee Robalin (JR/El Paso, Texas)'s 15 kills in the victory (25-22, 25-7, 25-19).
The Eagles found themselves in a battle in the first set; the Red Hawks (3-10, 1-3 Cal Pac) hung right with the Eagles and held the lead at 14-13. Terra Gordon (SO/San Antonio, Texas) went on a three-point service run to get the lead back, and the Eagles never relinquished it. ERAU hit .270 in the first compared to SU's .179.
While the first was tight, the second was utter domination. ERAU hit at .560! After jumping out to a 12-4 lead, Robalin went for eight straight behind the service line to put the set to rest. Sharik Joseph (JR/San Diego, Calif.) was a monster in the middle, tallying four of her six kills and grabbing a solo block in the set.
SU found a way to battle back in the third set but it was just too late. Four of the Eagles first seven points came from the 2018 Cal Pac Player of the Year, Robalin finished the set with six kills. ERAU would go on another long run to separate and they never looked back!
Once again, Audrey Baldwin (SR/Santa Barbara, Calif.) assisted on 37 points tonight, which extends her streak of 30+ assists to 13 matches. She also racked up an impressive four kills from the setter role.
ERAU is right back at it Friday night in Eagle Gym against University of California at Merced at 7:00 pm MST.
