Macfarlane Elected to Board of Gardner Family Teachers Scholarship Foundation

Dave “Mac” Macfarlane, general manager for Findlay Subaru in Prescott, was elected by unanimous vote to the board of directors of the Garner Family Scholarship Foundation (GiFTS)  foundation. The GiFTS organization is a non-profit organization which has as its sole mission the providing of scholarships to qualified Yavapai County students enrolled in teacher education curriculum at accredited colleges or universities.

Macfarlane has been in the community two years, having come to establish a new Subaru dealership in cooperation with the Findlay Auto Group-Prescott. GiFTS President Jodi Rooney said of Macfarlane, “Mac brings his own personal passion for supporting education at all levels, plus bringing the strong corporate support of Subaru nationally and internationally.  We’re delighted to have him join our diversified volunteer board which represents the entirety of Yavapai County.”

Macfarlane came to Prescott from his hometown of St. George, Utah.  His ancestors there were pioneers in settling and providing leadership for the community and the region.  He and his wife Julie have four children and 15 grandchildren.  Macfarlane says, “With all those grandchildren, you can well believe I am going to support good teachers and quality education.”

He continued, “I am pleased to do my small part in the community by serving on this board.  Investing in our teachers is one of the best things we can do to insure sustaining future generations of our leaders.” Macfarlane will join several other board members in late March to interview applicants for several scholarships of $2,400 or more.

Board President Rooney urged students interested in applying for scholarships to be certain to file applications by no later than March 6.  “We have more than $28,000 we are dedicating to teacher education scholarships,” she said.  She noted that in the20 years since its founding in 2000, GiFTS has granted almost $325,000 in awards to Yavapai County college or university students.
