Salvation Army Kettle Campaign Slows with the Economy

Donations to the Red Kettles of The Salvation Army in Prescott and Prescott Valley are down this year in comparison to last year by $6,300.

In past years The Salvation Army kettles have kept up with request for help from families in need, this year the kettles are struggling to keep up with the projected increase of services to the needy. “We have seen an increase in request for services, from families and individuals that are finding it hard to make ends meet for the first time in their lives,” said Major Kyle Trimmer. While there are no plans to reduce services to those in need over the coming year, the Army will have to find other avenues to raise the shortfall from the kettle campaign if it continues to fall behind the projected goal for this year of $134,000 which reflects a 7% increase from the 2009 kettle campaign.

The kettle campaign is the largest fund raiser carried out by the organization and usually accounts for about 10% of the local budget that cares for the needy in our area throughout the year.

The Salvation Army wishes to thank all those that have contributed to the kettle campaign, and to those who give throughout the year. We understand that the economy has played a role in giving for many this Christmas and ask that if you are considering a gift this Christmas season please do not delay.
