Local Social Group Welcomes Trader Joe’s

01 March 2012

Manager of new Trader Joes greeted warmly.

The Ranch Social Club at the Ranch subdivision off Lee Blvd today hosted a breakfast meeting featuring speaker Steve Carmick, manager of the Prescott Trader Joe’s.

The meeting at the Stoneridge Golf Clubhouse was also attended by Prescott Mayor Marlin Kuykendall and Councilman John Hanna.

Carmick, along with supporting staff members, attracted a larger than usual crowd of nearly 70 residents, said Thomas Restifo coordinator for the group. The manager provided attendees with a preview of the opening which is officially slated for Friday, March 9 at 9 a.m.

Carmick fielded a barrage of questions from the audience, such as: When are we getting your Fearless Flyer? How do you buy your wines? How often is your stock delivered? And how many local people were hired for jobs? Answers: Postcards notifying residents of the opening will be sent out this month, and the Fearless Flyer will be available on their website; Trader Joe’s employs buyers who search for the best wines at the best prices from a wide variety of wineries. The store will continue to offer the Charles Shaw brand and highlight additional labels as they arrive; TJ’s receives stock shipments every day of the week and will be open every day; regarding the number of locals hired by Trader Joe’s following their recent round of job interviews, Carmick was unable to comment due to company policy.

With a shared entrance at Lee Blvd. and Highway 69, the Ranch Social Club has a special interest in Trader Joe’s. The group was overwhelmingly in support of the store and the Shops at Prescott Gateway.

Mayor Kuykendall gave closing remarks, explaining that the City is heavily dependent upon sales tax and has become a cheerleader of sorts for local business. “We’re confident that the city’s investment in this project will benefit our citizens, our General Fund which covers operating expenses, and will be a tremendous success for Trader Joe’s and the incoming tenants at the Shops at Gateway.” The Mayor also pointed out that economic impact for business in close proximity to Trader Joe’s stores indicates an increase of about 5% in gross revenue.
