Arcadia Spoils Badgers Home Opener

The Prescott Badgers had a tough day at the plate and it cost them as the Arcadia Titans beat the Badgers 4-1 in their 2024 home opener.

Arcadia scored the first run in the top of the second on an RBI double by Levi Herndon.

Jack Burton doubled in Ryan Elliot, who walked, with the game tying, and what would turn out to be the only run, and the only extra base hit, for the home team in the third inning. Burton said, “I got that RBI hit and thought that would get us going. We just let too many good pitches get by us and that hurt us. We just need to bounce back on Friday and do what we are capable of.”

With the game tied at one through four innings. It was the fifth that was the difference. The Titans took advantage of some tough Badger breaks to score three runs in the top of the fifth inning. A single, a double, a triple, along with a wild pitch and an errant pickoff throw gave Arcadia all they needed to go up 4-1.

Parker Reed got his first start of the season and said, “I felt I started off a little slow at the beginning. Overall I felt good out there today. I’m just disappointed that I wasn’t able to get us out of that fifth inning. If I could have made the right pitch, or we make a play, or get a call, then that would have kept us right there.”

Josh Adler came in and closed out the game on the hill for Prescott.

The Badgers were unable to get to Heil Gehrig in the final three innings who had replaced starter Garon Drier, who allowed the only Badger run.

Coach Barry Tolli said, “I was happy the way Parker competed on the mound. We just watched too many good pitches go by and that is a cardinal sin. I want us to be more aggressive. We had a couple of defensive plays, and that is what we need to clean up. We made too many mistakes last season and that is something we are really trying to get corrected.”

Luke Tobin had two singles. Nick Martin, Ivan Schuster, and Cooper Magnett each had a single.

Arcadia has now won four straight and improves to (4-1). Prescott falls to (2-1) and will host Seton Catholic today at 4 pm.
