If you are looking for excellent books to read and a place to share them, join the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle of Prescott (CLSC). Rather than all Circle members reading the same book each month, participants choose any one of the 200+ books from the CLSC list to read and then share their chosen book with the group. Marjory Sente, facilitator, is a member of the CLSC Class of 2010 and has read over 60 books from the list and completed the Parnassian level.

Geology Talks: Highly Explosive Basaltic Volcanism

Amanda Clark, ASU professor will discuss how most basaltic volcanic eruptions are characterized by quiet lava flows (think Hawaii), while the 1085 AD eruption of Sunset Crater near Flagstaff was explosive. Professor Clark's field studies have quantified the volume and column heights of individual eruptive phases and she has done mineralogical studies to discover reasons behind this uncharacteristic behavior.

Geology Talks is hosted by the Central Arizona Geology Club and presented with funding from the Friends of the Prescott Public Library.  This event includes an opportunity to "show and tell" and ask questions of Geology Club members.

The book Images of America: Northern Arizona Space Training shares the passion, drive, creativity and quirkiness of the people who helped fulfill President Kennedy's bold challenge of sending humans to the Moon.
