Dump Truck Fire in Dewey

Monday morning, Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority’s Engine 54 was dispatched to a dump truck fire at the intersection of Newtown Avenue and Wicklow Place in Dewey. A Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputy who was working nearby also responded.

Deputy Radford arrived on scene rapidly and used the fire extinguisher from his patrol vehicle to put out the fire before it could spread. The crew of Engine 54 eliminated any further potential for fire. There were powerlines in close proximity to the dump truck which could have easily burned, causing an outage, had the response not been swift.

As much as Fire hates to admit that law enforcement officers put out fires now and again, we’re grateful for Deputy Radford’s response and quick-thinking. CAFMA and YCSO are a team in every sense of the word and that’s never more evident than on scenes like these.

You don’t have to be fire or police to carry a fire extinguisher. Safely securing a fire extinguisher in a vehicle, and being familiar with how to use it, might someday help prevent a small fire from becoming a BIG FIRE!
