The Prescott Badgers used a hot start from Jake Hilton, in setting the tone for a 68-50 win over the rival Bears of Bradshaw Mountain. Hilton, who finished with 17 points and five rebounds, scored the first ten points of the game for the Badgers, as Prescott took an early lead. Hilton said, “We really fed off the crowd energy tonight. I just went after it early, and got some good shots to fall. Our student section was great, such a big motivator.”

After Hilton, Prescott’s big man, Zane Gaul dropped in a three for a 13-7 lead. The Bears bounced back on baskets by Ben Wilder and a pair of threes by Mason Hunt. The Badgers held the lead most of the first quarter, but a last second bucket gave the Bears a 20-19 lead. Gaul, and point guard sensation Uriah Tenette took control, as the Badgers dominated the second quarter, out hustling Bradshaw Mountain, and being aggressive in the paint, to go on a 13 point run to start the second quarter. Hunt was able to score for the Bears to end the drought, but the Badgers extended their lead to 43-24. Hunt was able to connect on a three pointer as time ran out to trim the deficit to 43-27 at the half.

The Bears spent the second half mostly keeping up with Prescott, as the Badgers maintained a healthy lead for the final two quarters, as the two teams fan base kept the noise level up.

Prescott came out once again with tremendous intensity, maintaining the double digit lead. The lead was 58-41 after three quarters, and grew to its largest margin of 21, at 66-45 with 3:23 left. The Badger starters began to make their exits to a big ovation from the home crowd.

Gaul, who finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds, said, “We were able to play our game tonight, and the atmosphere was really great. I just went out there and played hard. I was to get some good passes inside, and make some moves to the basket.”

Uriah Tenette, who led all scorers with 23 points, also had four assists and four steals, said, “We knew what we had to do coming in, and that was to execute on offense, and be aggressive on defense, without picking up cheap fouls. We were able to do all of that tonight.”

Badger Coach Travis Stedman said, “We were able to control the tempo and played Badger basketball tonight. Jake came out on fire, and that was huge. Then Uriah and Zane picked it up from there. They are a good team, so we had to remain focused on what we do best.”

The Badgers (8-1) in the GCR, and (16-2) overall, will play their third and final game of the week tonight, as they travel to Kingman to face Lee Williams. Tipoff is at 7 pm. Bradshaw Mountain falls to (8-1) and (19-3). The Bears will travel to Flagstaff tonight at 7 pm.
