Uriah Tenette made the quick switch from football to basketball in the blink of an eye by scoring 40 points in the Badgers 71-61 win over the Mountain Ridge Lions. Coach Travis Stedman said, “We showed some lack of conditioning with it being our first game, and it being their seventh.” The 6A opponent drops to (2-5), and trailed the Badgers early, but put together a strong second quarter to take a 31-23 lead at the half. “We just had a rough second quarter, but came out in the second half with new intensity that changed the entire complexion of the game”, added Stedman.
The second half is when Uriah Tenette came out on fire, scoring 32 of his 40 points in the final 16 minutes of play. “For a kid who looks small in stature he has no problem putting the team on his back when needed and carrying us. He told me he wasn’t going to let us lose”, said Stedman. The Badgers closed the gap to 49-44 by the end of the third quarter.
A fifteen point advantage for Prescott in the final eight minutes, outscoring Mountain Ridge 27-12, leaving little to no drama in the final minute. Big man Zane Gaul worked hard for his nine points before fouling out. Andy Saeva and Jaiden Thompson also fouled out for the Lions, as Tenette and Badgers took the lead, closing the game out with ball control and free throws.
The Badgers (1-0) will host Cortez on Monday at 7 pm.

Varsity Girls Basketball
The Lady Badgers fell in their opener with a 73-39 setback to the Mountain Ridge Lady Lions in the Badger Dome. Prescott (0-1) will travel to Phoenix on Monday at 5:30 pm to take on Cortez. Mountain Ridge improves to (5-0).
Varsity Boys Soccer
The Badgers dropped two out of three in the Alliance Tournament with an 8-1 loss to Bradshaw Mountain. Prescott (0-2-1) will host Cactus on Monday at 5 pm.
