Yavapai CASA for Kids Foundation is asking the community for help in raising $10,000.00 for foster youth in Yavapai County. They are urging community members to be the reason these children have their needs met by participating in Giving Tuesday on November 29, 2022.

“Immediately after we spend a day giving thanks, we are encouraged to shop til we drop but with Giving Tuesday, we are all encouraged to use our money to make a difference in the areas that are near and dear to us.” Said Mona Stephens, Development Director of Yavapai CASA for Kids Foundation.

Giving Tuesday originally began in 2012 as a day for people across the nation to do good in their communities. The idea quickly spread and became a global movement. It is now a day in which millions of people collaborate, celebrate generosity, and give to worthy causes.

This year, Yavapai CASA for Kids is joining the movement. They are encouraging everyone in the Quad-Cities and beyond to unite with them in their mission to raise critical funds for local foster youth. All proceeds will go directly to programs that allow foster youth to have their most basic needs met, along with the opportunity to receive items and/or experiences that enrich their lives. With over 300  foster children right here in our community, they need our care and support this season. It is through no fault of their own that these children enter the system. They suffer the consequences and experience trauma brought on by the adults in their lives; so much so that they are two times as likely to suffer from PTSD as US veterans.

Barbara J. Polk, founder of the Yavapai CASA for Kids Foundation, once said, “I want children to know they are loved by a lot of people who may not even know their names.”

This season, as we give thanks and gather with our loved ones, think of the foster youth in our area and know that you have the power to give them the slightest ounce of love and warmth that you feel. If you are willing to use that power, donate at yavapaicasaforkids.org and put “Giving Tuesday” in the comments section. Even the smallest amount helps, and all donations qualify for the AZ Tax Credit program with up to $500.00 for those filing single and $1,000.00 for joint.
