Great American Outdoors Act Funds Road and Trail Projects at Lynx Lake

Improvements to the Lynx Lake Recreation Area funded by the Great American Outdoors Act will start this week.

Prescott National Forest has hired a contractor to begin paving the Lynx Lake Store Road (FSR 611) at the North Shore Recreation Area. On Friday, September 30, 2022, Pima Paving will start mobilizing equipment and on Monday, October 3, 2022, they will start working on asphalt pulverization.  The project is expected to take two weeks to complete.  Weather could delay completion or change dates of closures.

Starting Monday, October 3, 2022, Lynx Lake North Shore Day Use will be closed to the public; however, Lynx Lake South Shore Day Use will remain open for visitors. Please observe and obey all traffic control signs, especially in areas where workers are present.  Homestead Trail #305 will be impacted where it crosses the North Shore Access Road (FSR 611).  Trail users should plan accordingly, looking for alternate trail recreation opportunities, and obey all warning signs during construction to ensure their own safety.

Work will resume this week as crews continue heavy trail maintenance on the paved sections of the Lynx Lake Trail #311 to maintain and restore the accessibility of this popular trail.  Maintenance activities will require closing portions of the trail throughout the project which is expected to take up to four months to complete with estimated project completion towards the end of November 2022.

The Forest recognizes that this trail is popular for residents and visitors to the area, which is why work activities are only scheduled during the week.  Additionally, crews will work diligently to ensure that only the paved sections of trail being worked are closed from 8am to 5pm each day, allowing for full use outside of these times.  The unpaved east side of the lake will remain open throughout the project.  Please obey the posted closures as they are being implemented for public safety and to allow the crews to work most efficiently.  Updated temporary trail closure information will be shared on Prescott NF Facebook and Twitter accounts.

No impacts to Lynx Café and Store operations (open for business Thursday through Sunday) or Forest Service campground operations are anticipated while improvements are being made.  We do ask Lynx Café customers to please observe and obey all traffic control signs while traveling in the area, especially where workers are present.

Alternate day-use opportunities on the Bradshaw Ranger District include – Thumb Butte Day Use, Wekuvde Picnic Area, Playa Picnic Area and Granite Basin Boat Launch. Alternate fishing locations include Watson Lake, Willow Lake and Goldwater Lake, all managed by the City of Prescott.
