Prescott Mayor Phil Goode’s September 19th Update

September is National Preparedness Month, which is an excellent reminder to make sure you have preparedness plans in place for your family. This year’s theme is “A lasting Legacy”.

The point here is that the life you’ve built is worth protecting. Preparing for disaster helps to ensure you to create a lasting legacy for yourself, your family and even your pets.

The Yavapai County Flood Control District and the Yavapai County Emergency Management Department are both providing tips and tricks during the entire month of September on their Facebook pages. I recommend that you check that out and make sure that your Preparedness Plan is up-to-date.

Remember, the 2022 Veteran’s Day Parade will be held in downtown Prescott on Friday, November 11, 2022.

This year’s parade theme is: Vietnam Veterans: To Those That Served…and The 58,479 That Never Made It Home- Remember and Respect.

The City of Prescott is inviting parade entrants from the community to compete in a variety of categories this year.  Each entry category will have a first palace winner and all entries will compete for a Best overall award.

Participation in the parade is open to everyone and all are welcome! Please return your entry form no later than October 21, 2022, to assure proper staging and information prior to the event.

You may not be aware of this, but Governor Ducey has declared September 19-25 as Arizona Pollution Prevention Week. This coincides with the National Pollution Prevention Week. It is also called the #P2Week. You can read his Proclamation HERE.

Arizona has maintained an active Pollution Prevention Program for over 30 years, reducing Arizona facilities’ hazardous waste generation and toxic chemical by reducing such waste at the source, using science-based practices.

Here in Prescott, we also strive to prevent pollution 365 days a year, by protecting the quality of our air, water and land. For example, the City encourages water conservation through a variety of programs. We have a recyclable waste program, plus we even have special times each year for programs such as Bulk Waste Pickup (taking place right now!) and Hazardous Waste collection.

Programs such as these benefit our economy, community and environment. We encourage everyone to do their part and help keep our City and state beautiful!
