Lincoln Earns Horseshoes Tourney Title with Playoff Win

Trisha Lincoln needed a playoff game to beat Steve Lopez and claim the Class A champion at the MDI Rock Tournament held at the Watson Lake Courts in Prescott.  The extra game was needed as both pitchers beat each other once in the double round division. Lincoln, of Prescott, took the rubber game ending the day with 144 ringers. Steve Lopez, of Kingman, ended up with the overall ringer high with 148.

Hal Handelman from Chino Valley won Class B by going undefeated, with Robert Chubinsky and Patti Lopez-Cepero taking second and third.

Cody Williams, also from Prescott, edged out Jay Mast and Emmett Jones to claim the top spot in Class C, which was the only handicapped division. Mast had two of the best games of the day, but a slow start in game one cost him. At the end it was a matter of points as all three pitchers went 3-1.

The weather was great and the high clouds always bring some welcome relief. It was a really good turn out and we are looking forward to our next tournament.

Thanks once again to everyone who helped out, especially our scorekeepers Cookie Brewer and Cheryl Reid. Anyone interested in horseshoes are welcome to come out to watch and learn. Any questions can be emailed to the milehihorseshoeclub@outlook.com.  Prescott will host a tournament on Saturday, September 10. Prescott Valley will be hosting a tournament this Saturday, September 3. Starting time is 9 am.
