Red, White, and Blue Classic Horseshoe Tournament

A large number of participants came out from to pitch horseshoes in the Red, White, and Blue Tournament held in Prescott Valley.

Players came from all over including California and Nevada, maxing out the courts at American Legion Park.
Everyone got their fill of food with hot dogs and cake to celebrate the holiday weekend. The D Class saw Jon Mullinix from Kingman pitching in his first sanctioned tournament, going 4-0 and pitching 11% above his entry average. Gerald Stainbrook from Surprise had a 3-1 record to place 2nd.
The C Class was the most talked about class of the day. Young ten-year-old TJ  Grose from Nevada was seated number one in his class, and had to give his opponents points to start. Grose was able to pitch over his percentage 8.02% to be exact, to clinch the win over Kingman’s Miguel Castro, who gave TJ his only loss to come in second. Cody Williams from Prescott placed third with a 4-1 record.
The B Class George Stockton from Kingman placed third with a 28.75%.  Patti Lopez Cepero from Prescott Valley tied Stockton, but was able to have a higher ringer average to get her second place. Lopez-Cepero pitched a 31.67 % average. Mike Brewer from Prescott was able to win the Class with a 4.5 and 1.5 record taking home the Class Champion Patch and the highest average of 35% for that Division.
In the Class A 40 foot division, Steve Ochoa from California, and Bob Swain of Bullhead City, had a playoff to determine who would take the Tournament Champion Patch.  Swain was able to outpitch Ochoa for the title. Ochoa pitched 31.60% and placed second and Swain pitched a 37.20% for the title.
Class A 30ft division saw several close games. There was actual a 4-way tie for second place. Kingman players took the final two spots, as Modesta Ramirez placed third, with second going to Steve Lopez, who pitched 52.08% for the tournament. Clarence Jellema from Mesa losing only one game and pitching a 55.83 %, took home the Tournament Champion title for this class.
