“Good Ol’ Summertime” with Living History, July 9 – Sharlot Hall Museum

This Saturday, July 9, families are invited to celebrate summer the old-fashioned way at the Sharlot Hall Museum during their monthly Living History Adventure. July’s theme: “Good Ol’ Summertime.”

Citizens of early Prescott had to find new ways (that didn’t include air conditioning) to keep cool and amuse themselves on hot summer days. This week, visitors can experience Territorial summer for themselves, complete with lawn games, gold panning, and make-your-own lemonade.

Of course, no Living History Adventure would be complete without the Museum’s Living History interpreters demonstrating lifestyles and skills of the Arizona Territory. From outdoor work like gardening and laundry to indoor craftsmanship like sewing and printing, interpreters are ready to share their historic knowledge and expertise with visitors.

The Living History Adventure is a unique experience in the Prescott area and introduces guests to local history in a hands-on way. “I always learn something new,” a recent Adventure guest said. “I love the variety!” This month, guests can challenge each other to lawn game tournaments (a quick round of quoits, anyone?), learn how to pan for gold, and quench their thirst with make-your-own lemonade.

The Living History Adventure happens monthly at the Sharlot Hall Museum, April-October, with a different theme each month. Adult admission to the Museum (Living History Adventure included) is $12, while kids 12-under get in free. For more information, visit the Museum’s website at sharlothallmuseum.org.
