Yavapai College Makes a “Workforce Promise”

New program lets students train for meaningful careers, tuition-free

Yavapai College has announced an exciting new program to strike down the barriers between aspiring students and the skills they need to pursue meaningful careers. The Workforce Promise, a new financial aid program commencing this fall, will offer county students, of any age, the chance to earn a two-year degree in a variety of trades, tuition-free.

Future teachers, nurses, firefighters, accountants, mechanics and more can find the breakthrough they have been looking for in the Workforce Promise, which reimburses students for their tuition expenses if they complete their degree program within seven semesters.

The Workforce Promise is yet another way Yavapai College makes education accessible and affordable for the residents of Yavapai County.” College President Dr. Lisa Rhine explained. “This program is open to students of all ages. It can help students achieve their degrees debt-free in career and technical education fields that are in high demand with living wage job opportunities in our region.”

Inspired by The YC Promise – a 2017 program that reimburses tuition for students completing their degrees on time – The Workforce Promise extends that eligibility to a variety of Associate of Applied Science and Business degree programs.

It is a last-dollar scholarship, repaying qualified students for any direct tuition costs uncovered by Federal, State, third-party or college grants, upon timely completion of their degree program.

The Workforce Promise covers students seeking degrees in the following fields:

  • Associate of Arts Elementary Education
  • Associate of Business
  • Associate of Science
  • Accounting
  • Agriculture Technology Mgmt.
  • Applied Pre-Engineering
  • Automotive Technology
  • Computer Networking Technology
  • Electrical & Instrumentation Technology
  • Fire Science
  • Graphic Design
  • Management
  • Nursing
  • Paralegal Studies
  • Radiologic Technology
  • Viticulture and Enology

“This is a wonderful opportunity for people of any age to enter into new careers and be able to earn a livable wage.” YC Promise Program Director Meghan Paquette said. “Whether someone is looking to further their education or re-career into a skilled trade, there is a degree and career path for everyone through The Workforce Promise.”

The Workforce Promise is available for new students, enrolling at Yavapai College for the Fall 2022 Semester, as well as qualifying first-year YC students. Students must enroll through the YC Promise Portal, meet regularly with advisors, maintain at least a 2.0 grade average and graduate within the stipulated time frame. The reimbursement covers direct tuition costs up to sixty-one credits. It will be awarded after degree completion, and cannot include any non-YC classes, transfer credits, developmental or re-taken courses. For a full list of eligibility requirements, please visit the YC Promise website.

Students wishing to apply for the Workforce Promise must opt-in through the YC Promise Portal by Monday, August 1. Learn more about the Workforce Promise academic program, eligibility requirements and sign-up information by visiting: https://www.yc.edu/promise
