Step into Prescott’s Past with Trades & Traditions – Sharlot Hall Museum

How did a blacksmith make a living in a small frontier town like Prescott? What did daily life look like for a merchant? What skills did citizens of Prescott use to support themselves? Find out this Saturday at “Trades & Traditions,” the Sharlot Hall Museum’s largest Living History Adventure of the year, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Experience the history of Prescott as portrayed by Living History interpreters in the Museum’s historic buildings and on the grounds. Talk to Mrs. Jessie Frémont, see what’s on the stove for dinner and watch some fine needlework in the Ranch House, or try a game of Faro.

In between Living History stations, try an activity: craft a corn husk doll, dip your own candle, stuff a Territorial-style mattress, bind a book, and more. These activities engage visitors with a few of the projects and pastimes that early Prescottonians would have enjoyed and employed.

Watch finer crafts in process with skilled craftsmen, including quilting, spinning, lace making, and wood carving. Join in the creativity and design your own quilt block or use your Territorial skills to pan for “gold.”

A live music schedule enlivens the day with popular local artists like Eric Ramsey, Begged & Borrowed, and Greg LaCosse. Performances will take place in the Museum’s Amphitheater from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This Saturday’s Living History Adventure also coincides with Sharlot Hall Day and marks the Sharlot’s Hall Museum’s 94th anniversary. On your way through the campus, stop by for a celebratory treat as the Museum recognizes the remarkable work and legacy of its founder, Sharlot M. Hall.
