Prescott National Forest to waive day-use fees for upcoming National Get Outdoors Day

On Saturday, June 11, 2022, the Prescott National Forest will waive fees at all Forest-operated recreation sites in honor of National Get Outdoors Day.  This waiver does not apply to reserved group-use areas or overnight camping at Forest Service developed campgrounds.

Fee-free days are an opportunity to connect more Americans with their public lands.  National Get Outdoors Day was launched in 2008 to get American families into the great outdoors with a special emphasis on children and underserved populations who may not be familiar with national forests and national parks.

As part of this nationwide event fees will be waived at the following sites:

  • Lynx Lake Recreation Area:  North Shore, South Shore and Lynx Creek Ruin
  • Granite Basin Recreation Area:  Cayuse, Wekuvde, Boat Launch, Playa, and Metate
  • Thumb Butte Recreation Area
  • Alto Pit OHV Recreation Area:  Day Use Site
  • Groom Creek Nature Trail
  • Mingus Day Use
  • Mingus Lake Day Use

Visitors are reminded that the Prescott NF is under Stage 2 fire restrictions which prohibits campfires on the entire forest. Recreational target shooting restrictions are also in effect. Under these restrictions, discharging a firearm air, rifle, or gas gun, except for persons engaged in legal hunting activities, is prohibited on the Prescott NF. Fireworks and the use of exploding targets are always prohibited year-round on national forests.

Forest officials urge visitors to comply with these restrictions to help reduce the threat of human-caused wildfires. These restrictions are an effort to protect public and firefighter safety, as well as National Forest System lands and resources, during a period of Extreme wildfire danger.
