Summer Season of Prescott Farmers Market begins!

The Prescott Farmers Market (PFM) welcomes customers for its 25th summer season on Saturday, May 7. Every Saturday through October 29, the market will be open from 7:30 am to noon at 900 Iron Springs Road at the Dignity Health, YRMC overflow parking lot. In August, PFM looks forward to celebrating its 25th birthday with the community that’s made it a cornerstone event!

Prescott Farmers Market operates a producer-only farmers market, meaning every item sold is either grown or produced by the seller using Arizona-grown ingredients. The majority of products come from farmers and ranchers in Yavapai County. In addition to fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers, grass-fed beef, chicken and eggs, small food businesses sell ready-to-eat foods like sourdough bread, bagels, baked goods, quiche, tamales, street tacos, samosas, soups and Lebanese cuisine. Customers can also find an assortment of soaps, lotions and other body care products. Last but not least, during the month of May, farmers have plant starts for sale including herbs, tomatoes, peppers, squash and eggplant varieties that grow well in Yavapai County’s climate.

Customers can swipe their debit, credit or SNAP/EBT cards to receive tokens at the Information Booth. The Double Up Food Bucks Arizona program allows customers to DOUBLE their SNAP benefits at the market for fresh fruits and vegetables and garden starts. All vendors accept cash. Participants of the WIC and CSFP programs are eligible to receive Farmers Market Nutrition Program coupons for immediate use at PFM.

“The Prescott Farmers Market is always a highlight of our weekend,” said PFM Board Treasurer Steve Walker. “When we moved here in the 1970s, there were few local farmers and no market. Now it is a vibrant scene with music, food, crafts, meat, produce, flowers and much more. There is also a very appealing positive energy among the farmers, vendors, staff and shoppers. The PFM has truly been transformational for our Prescott Community.”

PFM hosts special events on a regular basis including a Mother’s Day photo booth on May 7, Chef in Action on the second Saturday of the month, and a monthly Kids’ Craft Booth. All PFM events, including a vendor roster for each market day (subject to change), are listed on the event calendar. PFM also serves as a food scrap drop site for the Prescott Community Compost Program. Citizens can deposit fruit and vegetable kitchen scraps to be composted. Pets are not allowed at the market. ADA service animals specifically trained to aid a person with a disability are welcome.

As a vital part of the economy, the mission of Prescott Farmers Market is to support and expand local agriculture, cultivate a healthy community and increase access to affordable local food.
