Approaching the End of the School Year – Chino Valley Unified School District

The official end of the school year for Chino Valley Schools is just around the corner, May 24th.  Between now and then there are a slew of scheduled end of year activities.

What may be the most important is Chino Valley High School’s (CVHS) graduation, which is scheduled for May 25th at 7:00 p.m. at Findlay Toyota Event Center.  A few other events include the CVHS Senior Awards and Scholarship Night, which is scheduled for the evening of Wednesday, May 11th in the CVHS gym.

The District Choir concert, featuring students from 5th grade through 12th grade is Monday, May 2nd in the Heritage Middle School gym and the District Band concert, again featuring students from 5th grade through 12th grade is Tuesday, May 3rd in the HMS gym. All schools have scheduled their individual awards programs and performances. You can go to each school’s website for more information.

Another event that takes place at this time of year is enrollment for next school year.  Incoming kindergarten students can enroll at Territorial Early Childhood Center.  Office hours are 7am-5pm Monday through Thursday.  Parents of students new to the district can get a registration packet online at chinovalleyschools.com under the enrollment tab or can get a packet at any school office.  Returning students will receive registration packets, which need to be returned to their child’s school.

The District has been busy recruiting staff for the next school year. We are excited to have Dr. Ed Moody join us as the new principal of Del Rio Elementary School starting in June. We still have some teacher positions open and recently the District implemented a new program that allows teacher candidates to start teaching with just a bachelor’s degree. The District, in conjunction with one of the state universities, will provide support and training for the new teacher until they are fully trained and certified. If you have a bachelor’s degree and are interested in teaching, you can apply on the District website and click on the employment tab on the menu bar.

We are excited to kick off a big project, one that is near and dear to my heart. At the last Governing Board meeting on April 11th, the Board approved construction of a new all-weather track at CVHS. The existing track was installed over 20 years ago and has not been in a condition to hold track meets for over 10 years. The District has nearly 200 track athletes between CVHS and HMS and this new track will allow them to hold home track meets and provide better practice opportunities. Construction should begin shortly with a goal of finishing before the end of June.

You can follow the district’s Facebook page at @CVSchoolsAZ or go to the district website at www.chinovalleyschools.com for updates on what is going on in the District.
