The Badgers ended their regular season with a 5-4 win over the Notre Dame Prep Saints.  The win secured second place in the Division II, Section II standings. Prescott (6-1) in DII, SII, and (9-5) overall, won the top three singles, and top two doubles competition. Leyton Fetty said, “Our season has been amazing. The team has been getting really close with each other, and yesterday we showed that with team support, Owen and I could pull out the win.”

Prescott will host the Canyon View Jaguars (13-1), to see who will be awarded the #16 seed in the playoffs. The winner gets a date with top seed Catalina Foothills on Tuesday. Coach Sterling Fetty said, “The Tennis Committee made a rule that if a section does not have a representative in the top 16, there has to be a play in match to see who gets the #16 position. It is going to be a really close match with Canyon View, and I am really excited it is a home match, and we don’t have to travel to somewhere like Douglas or Tucson.”

The Bears of Bradshaw Mountain took the first game of the rivalry with a 4-1 win over Badgers on a windy day at Prescott High School.

Bradshaw Mountain’s Yasmine Bernal allowed just one run on four hits, all singles in picking up the win. Eliza Legge gave up the only run of the game for the Bears in the first inning. She only allowed a pair of hits in the final six innings. “Our whole team came out and we wanted this game, said Bernal.

The Bears jumped on top after one out. Kadence Williams reached on an error, then singles by Kyla McDermott, Ashly Lisiecki, Inez Hatori Cambra, Brina Lankford, and Yasmine Bernal, and a walk led to the four runs first.

Prescott was quiet at the plate thanks to Bernal, but had their opportunities. They just could not get the right hit at the right time.

The Badgers big chance came in the fifth inning. Leah Walker walked, Eliza Legge and Maddie Vick singled to load the bases. Walker then scored the only Badger run on a wild pitch, cutting the deficit to 4-1. Prescott would leave two runners on base in that inning and the sixth.

Legge said, “I think I wasn’t really mentally ready for that first inning. I just told myself to go back out there and shake it off.”

Bernal got the Badgers out one, two, three, to end the game. Prescott (4-6) in the Grand Canyon Region, and (12-12) overall, will visit the Bears (8-3) and (13-4), today at 3:00 pm.
