Flagstaff Returns Favor With 5-4 Win : PHS Roundup

The Flagstaff Eagles edged the Prescott Badgers 5-4, in Flagstaff.  The Badgers nipped the Eagles 2-1 earlier this week in Prescott.  The game went down to the wire Friday afternoon as Flagstaff rallied from a 4-3 deficit with one run in the sixth to tie and the game winner in the seventh.

Gianna Baca started in the circle, and threw 4.1 innings before being relieved by Gracie Schmitz, who was the losing pitcher on Tuesday. Baca gave up all four runs, but Schmitz was perfect in the final 2.2 innings to earn the win. The Eagles got a pair of home runs, one each by Hallie Watkins and the game winner by Baca with one out in the bottom of the seventh.

The Badgers were led by Ruby Tessman and her three doubles. Tessman also scored three runs. Kennedy Carr had a double and an RBI. Ava Hlavacek had a pair of singles and two RBIs. Eliza Legge had two hits including a double. Legge pitched 6.1 innings , allowing three earned runs on seven hits, with nine strikeouts.

Prescott will host rival Bradshaw Mountain on Tuesday at 4:00 pm.

Varsity Girls Tennis

The Badgers beat visiting Lake Havasu Knights 7-1. The Badgers (5-2) in Division II, Section II, (10-2) will have one more match before the playoffs begin.

Prescott will close out the regular season versus  Notre Dame Prep at the Scottsdale Ranch Park and Tennis Center, on Tuesday at 3:00 pm.

Boys Varsity Tennis

The Lake Havasu Knights came back to sweep the doubles competition, and sneak past the Prescott Badgers 5-4 in Lake Havasu. The Badgers led 4-2 after the singles matches, but the Knights were successful in all three doubles.

Prescott will host Notre Dame Prep at 3:30 pm on Tuesday in their regular season finale, before heading into the playoffs.

Varsity Baseball

The Badgers dropped their second game this week to the Flagstaff Eagles. Prescott lost again by two 8-6 on Thursday, after falling 3-1 at home on Tuesday. A road trip to the Valley on Wednesday was worth an extra inning 10-5 win over the Marcos de Niza Padres. The Badgers came back from a 5-4 deficit in the seventh and added five more in the extra eighth frame for the win. Jack Burton picked up the win, throwing two innings in relief of starter Ethan Ammerman. Josh Miller had a four hit day, scoring three runs with two RBIs. Luke Carmick and Ryan Elliot also had two RBIs each. Tyson Potts reached base all five at bats with three times coming on hits, and the other two on walks.

Three games remain on the regular season schedule. First stop is Prescott Valley on Tuesday for a 7:00 pm contest, against rival Bradshaw Mountain.
