Toni Tennille Headlines “Hello, Dolly!” at Yavapai College Performing Arts Center

Toni Tennille, the 70’s pop legend and the voice behind the Grammy award-winning hit “Love Will Keep Us Together,” will make a triumphant return to the Theatre this fall, portraying the title character in an iconic American musical in her Prescott home. Don’t miss Toni Tennille playing Dolly Levi in Yavapai College Performing Arts Center’s November production of Hello, Dolly! Tickets go on sale Tuesday, April 5 at 9 a.m.

A talented vocalist, pianist and studio performer, Toni Tennille is best remembered as half of The Captain & Tennille. With former husband Daryl Dragon, Toni Tennille lit up America’s airways in the mid-1970 with hits like “The Way I Want to Touch You,” “Muskrat Love” and “Love Will Keep Us Together.” Their signature take on the Neil Sedaka’s anthem “Love Will Keep Us Together” won them the Grammy for 1975’s Record of the Year.

Toni Tennille’s incredible success as a pop star and session performer – she toured with the Beach Boys, sang background vocals for Elton John and on Pink Floyd’s The Wall – overshadow an impressive theatrical background. As a member of California’s South Coast Repertory Company, she wrote the original music for a musical, Mother Earth, that toured the West Coast and eventually performed on Broadway. In 1998, she performed the role of Victoria Grant/Count Victor Grazinski in the national touring production of the musical Victor/Victoria. Since moving to Prescott, she has lent her talent and support to a variety of local arts and musical organizations, including the AZ Philharmonic.

With Hello, Dolly!, Tennille will share the stage with a Yavapai College Performing Arts Department that has earned critical acclaim staging lavish, large-cast musicals – like Beauty & the Beast, Chicago, Into the Woods and The Phantom of the Opera. For twelve performances this November, she will join a 40-person cast for a classically American musical featuring unforgettable Jerry Herman tunes like its title song, “Put on Your Sunday Clothes,” and “Before the Parade Passes By.”
