An early season rivalry game saw the Bradshaw Mountain Bears knock off the Prescott Badgers 55-45 in Prescott Valley, with the student sections out in force.

Jason Parent led all scorers with 18 for the Badgers, but it was a trio of Bears, Ben Wilder 15, Nick Summit 14, along with 9 by Josue Luna, that made a huge impact throughout the contest.

The game was close for the most part, but when the Bears built a lead five point lead in the second, the Badgers made it disappear in the final 95 seconds, as the teams went to the locker room tied at 25 at the half.

The game stayed close as the Badgers held a one point lead 36-35 at the end of the third quarter as the defenses continued to challenge almost every shot.

Down by two, Jason Parent drove to the basket to tie the game at 40 with 3:22 remaining

Jose Luna made the shot to give the Bears the lead for good, and when Ben Wilder knocked down the triple, Bradshaw Mountain led 45-40 with 2:15 left.

Prescott managed only five points in the final 3:32, with three of those coming at the foul line by Parent with just seven second remaining.

Bradshaw Mountain coach Blair Hillig said, “I thought we played very well tonight defensively in keeping them in check. We were able to get the lead in the fourth, and our defense did a great job shutting them down in the final three minutes.”

Along with his 18 points, Jason Parent had 9 rebounds, Uriah Tenette 13 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists.

Prescott drops to (0-1) in the Grand Canyon Region and (5-3) overall, while Bradshaw Mountain is (1-0), and (2-2). The Badgers will host Coconino, while the Bears will be at home versus Mingus. Both games at 7 pm on Tuesday.
