Road Maintenance and Repair Work on Horsethief Basin Road

Weather conditions caused extensive damage and washed out sections of the Senator Hwy (FSR-52), Poland Junction Road (FSR 261), Mount Union Lookout (FSR 261A), and FSR 22 making them unsafe and impassable in some locations.   Crews will begin performing maintenance and repair work starting on FSR 52 in the Horsethief Basin Road Area South of Crown King, Arizona beginning as early as November 29, 2021, weather permitting.

There will be traffic signs in place warning oncoming traffic of road construction ahead that will remain in place until maintenance/repairs have been completed and the road is safe for public use. Work is scheduled to start in the month of November, but it is likely to change depending on weather conditions. Although Forest Service road managers hope to complete the work as soon as possible, the public should anticipate certain road restrictions and possible temporary road closures while work is being performed.

Road Maintenance Description:  Forest System Road (FSR) 52 starting at its intersection with FSR 697 (East of Kentuck Spring Campground) and ending on FSR 261 (Poland Rd). FSR 261A, starting from its intersection with FSR 261, to its terminus; FSR 261, starting from its intersection with FSR 261A, to FSR 103 (Big Bug Mesa) and FSR 22 (2.3 Mi.) starting from its intersection with FSR 103.

Forest Officials ask all visitors to use caution while driving on these roads and to obey all traffic warnings.
