ARIZONA LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

LD1 Representatives Quang Nguyen and Judy Burgess

This month our LD1 representatives will give us an update on the 2021 legislative session. This was an action packed grinder of a session and our representatives will fill us in on the details of what was accomplished and what important bills are coming up.

Representative Judy Burges

Representative Judy Burges is an award winning unapologetic conservative.  She was first elected in 2005 while residing in Yavapai County then redistricted to Yavapai-Maricopa Legislative District #4.  Robert and Judy raised their 3 children in Yavapai County, their children still live in Yavapai County, and are all productive members of the community.

The  Burges’ were members of many of the local organizations including the Yavapai Republican Men’s Club where Robert once served as President. Before being elected to the House of Representatives, Judy also served as the Yavapai Republican Party’s First Vice Chairman. Their roots are deep in this community.

As  a legislator, she feels that it is her job to stand in the gap between  “We the People” and an ever-expanding government that seeks to  constantly raise your taxes and impose increasing bureaucratic burdens  on individuals and businesses.  A great description of the Biden  administration is -more regulation, higher taxes, and impossible mandates. With 31 Republican members in the House and 16 Republican members in  the Senate, we need more real conservatives in the legislature.

Representative Quang Nguyen (pronounced “Win”)

Quang Nguyen is an Arizona State Representative, Legislative District One, serving in his first term, the 55th Legislative Session.

Quang is a 16 year resident of the Town of Prescott Valley. Quang & Mai  have two grown children, Casey, who is a college graduate and is working  full-time in Southern California as a marketing coordinator for an  advertising company.  Their daughter Sarah is a recent graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and is currently studying at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. They are both products of Prescott High School.

Quang  is also currently serving as the President of the Arizona State Rifle and Pistol Association and is deeply involved in protecting the Second Amendment from the daily attacks by the current White House and the liberal DC politicians.

FEATURED CANDIDATE: KARA WOODS

Candidate for Arizona State Superintendent of Public Education

Wife/military spouse, mother, grandmother, teacher, PUSD school board member, and small business owner.  I believe America is the land of opportunity and a great place to live and raise a family.  Life-long  Republican, Precinct Committeeman, and YavGOP Treasurer.  Degrees in  Mathematics and Physics from Ripon College, Ripon, Wisconsin.

I believe we in Arizona can do better for our children. Our children deserve the right to be well educated.  Arizona K-12 education is  ranked 48th in educating our youth in the United States and 47th in the amount spent on each student.  Although I do not believe there is a 100% correlation between money spent and a good education, I would like to increase spending per student in Arizona to help make our students more competitive in the world economy. Fiscal transparency is necessary to clearly show constituents how our tax monies are being spent and push  more money down to the district level where the education of our  students happens without raising school taxes.  Motivate parents and  community members to get involved in their local schools by volunteering  in classrooms, monitoring school boards, and taking back control of  what is taught in their schools.
