We have finally gotten the OK to have this year’s Prescott Jazz Summit, after missing last year due to the COVID restrictions. Thanks to our sponsors and supporters; Friends of Big Band Jazz, The City of Prescott Office of Tourism, The Prescott Unified School District, The Hometown Radio Group, The Kieckhefer Foundation, The Daily Courier, The Hassayampa Inn, many local hotels, and Murphy’s Restaurant, we are able to present the festival in its entirety.
Our Headliners this year are Internationally known multi-instrumentalist Gunhild Carling from Sweden, who has even performed for the crowned heads of Europe; and Tom “Bones” Malone from the Blues Brothers Movie, the David Letterman Show Band, and the Saturday Night Live Show Band. Also – famed comedian Pete Barbutti will be back as our master of ceremonies.
The dates of the festival are August 27-29, 2021. Our venues include The Ruth Street Community Theater at Prescott High School, The Marina Room and Arizona Room at the Hassayampa Inn, and Murphy’s Restaurant. Our First event will be in the Arizona Room at the Hassayampa Inn. We are bringing back our extremely popular Meet the Musicians Reception. The Friday Evening Concert at Ruth Street Theater will be a tribute to the jazz side of Broadway, Tin Pan Alley, and 42nd Street, and will feature combos made up of all our musicians and singers. Saturday will also be held at the Ruth Street Theater. During the day we will present FREE workshops for students and adults from 10 AM – 2 PM, and Saturday evening will be our traditional All-Star Big Band Gala. Sunday will start with our Jazz Brunch in the Marina Room of the Hassayampa Inn and continue with an incredibly special afternoon concert featuring internationally known star Gunhild Carling and friends. Then the festival will conclude with our popular Jam Session at Murphy’s Restaurant.
In addition to Gunhild Carling, Tom Malone, and Pete Barbutti, we will be presenting alumni of such great orchestras as Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Jimmy Dorsey, and Harry James. As well as vocalists Ronnie Rose from Las Vegas, and local favorite here in Arizona, Dennis Rowland from the Count Basie Orchestra.
