New Pump Track at Granite Creek Opens to the Public July 7th

The City of Prescott Recreation Services Department, and Prescott Mountain Bike Alliance (PMBA), are pleased to announce completion of the new pump track at Granite Creek Park.  There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Prescott Chamber of Commerce, followed by an opening party on Wednesday, July 7th at 4 p.m. Everyone is welcome to join in the celebration.  There will be food, music and pump track riding demonstrations. Bring your own chair and beverage.

Recreation Services Director Joe Baynes said:  “Prescott has a growing reputation as a mountain biking destination, and this new amenity adds to that. I want to thank PMBA and the entire community for the fundraiser that helped get this done.”

“We are excited about having a pump track in town,” said Ximena Florez, Board President of PMBA.  “We want to thank the City of Prescott for assisting us throughout, including providing the land and some materials.  Other sponsors include Dignity Health, Yavapai Regional Medical Center, our Platinum sponsor, for believing in us.  Thanks also to Josh Crothers from Prescott Landscape Professionals, the volunteers who gave their time to help, and all the donors who made the funding possible.”

A pump track is a closed-loop practice track consisting of berms, jumps, rollers connected by bank turns.  The rider “pumps” their way through in a continuous loop for as long as they wish, without having to pedal.  Riding a pump track is a great way for people to learn and improve MTB skills while gaining confidence and having fun.  A pump track is a great tool for learning and practicing mountain biking skills, and it’s a place where all ages and skill levels can have fun together.

About PMBA – Prescott Mountain Bike Alliance is a non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve, protect and promote mountain biking, trail access and diverse riding opportunities on Prescott area public lands through community education, advocacy, tourism, and unified action.
