The Class of 2021

On Wednesday, May 26th, Chino Valley High School will hold its graduation ceremony at Findlay Toyota Center.  The following is my speech to those attending telling them about the CVHS Class of 2021:

Good Evening,

My name is John Scholl and I am the superintendent of Chino Valley Schools.

I want to start by congratulating the Chino Valley High School class of 2021, the 29th graduating class of CVHS.

In my address this evening, I wanted to take a few minutes to share a little bit about the class of 2021.  It is important to know that this is an incredible class.

There are 123 seniors in the class of 2021.

During their tenure at CVHS, many of these seniors have competed with success at the local, state, and national levels in various academic and athletic competitions.  They are region champions in boys and girls soccer, wrestling, and baseball.  We have a two-time state champion wrestler.  Many of our athletes have been named to all-region and all state teams in their respective sports.  We have students that have competed and honored at the state and national levels as part of FFA, FCCLA, Skills USA, and HOSA.

While at CVHS, 88 seniors, over 70%, have completed a career and technical education program.  These are two-to-four-year programs leading to an industry certification in areas such as aviation, pre-engineering, culinary arts, drafting, automotive, welding, biotechnology, agriculture, electrical line worker, medical professions, computer network technology.  18 of these 77 students completed two programs.

Of the students graduating, again, over 60% of them have completed at least one college dual enrollment class meaning they took a college class and received high school credit as well.  Five students completed their first year of college math, 11 students completed their first year of college English, and 29 students completed their first year of both math and English giving them a huge head start, both academically and financially as they go off to college. Collectively, these students have earned almost 1000 credit hours, saving over $125,000 in tuition and fees.

Approximately three-quarters of the graduating class will be attending a college or university next year.  This class earned nearly $1.25 million in scholarships and awards to help them pay for their postsecondary education.

I would be remiss if I were not to mention that there are a few graduates who are choosing to get their postsecondary education a different way, by serving our country in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard.  Please stand if you will be joining the armed forces.

My final message to the 2021 graduating class is be proud of where you come from, be proud of being a Chino Valley Cougar, and congratulations on taking your first step on your path to success.  As you know, success begins with a Chino Valley High School diploma.  Thank you.
